MIDs will be based on Intel's Moorsetown microprocessor and Mobile Linux Moblin v2.0 operating system
Intel and LG have decided to collaborate around Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and will officially announce the deal at the Mobile World Congress starting today.
The MIDs will be based on Intel's Moorsetown microprocessor and Mobile Linux Moblin v2.0 operating system.
It's been a while since Intel started pushing for MIDs, and since Gigabyte introduced the M528 MID, LG too showed interest in the MID market space.
Last year, Intel had showcased a prototype of their Moorsetown platform based MID at the Intel Developer Forum. Built on the 45nm fabrication process, Intel's Moorsetown is expected to debut in 2010.
LG plans to create a mobile internet device that features mobile computer and phone.
Even as the netbooks segment is taking a while to settle in the market, Mobile Internet Devices are yet to arrive in the main stream market. Slowly but gradually, OEMs are showing interest in Intel's concept of mobile internet devices.
